Muslim Children Gassed at Dayton Mosque After Obsession DVD Hits Ohio
Please read this. From HuffPO
All I can say is that I am not a very proud American right now. This is disgusting, wrong and beyond the pale of anything I have seen as an adult in this nation.
Here is the local news stories on it. No National Coverage, or AP at all and 3 lousy local stories
Chemical irritant empties Islamic Society of Greater Dayton's mosque
Islamic Society baffled by incident at worship service

So ugly. So bigoted and horrible.
But what do we expect as the flames of hatred and discrimination are fanned for political expedience as they are today? To be sure I am not arbitrarily connecting the distribution of this DVD to the actions taken, but it is clear that an increasing number of Americans are looking at Muslims (not Islamists) through an ever cloudier lens of fear, repudiation and hatred. I hear it more and more and it sickens me.
Now who benefits most by all this? Who is beating the drum that whips up fear, that legitimizes bigotry and deviously conflates distinctions among a group of people? That answer is perhaps the scariest inference of this - and countless other - shameful acts.
What next? I shudder to ask.

This sort of neo-fascist acts stemming from irrational hate has had me worried for a while now. I remember the 20/20 segment where an actress dressed up in a hijab was harassed repeatedly in a bakery by an actor playing the baker, and unsuspecting bystanders applauded his bigotry.
It's not just in the US but rampant in Europe. There's been this lie about a so-called "Islamofascism" movement that has been making the rounds, seeking to stir fear, hatred and to provoke confrontation. The irony is that a large number of Muslims have been killed (over 1 million in Iraq alone), their lands quartered, colonized, bombed and invaded, dating from the last century to this past decade, by the so-called "Judeo-Christian" nations, if we are designating roles according religious beliefs here.
No doubt there are fundamentalist Muslims galore attending mosques with firebrand imams spouting violent visions not unlike the Left Behind hordes. Still, on the whole, they have been one of the worst suffering peoples on earth more sinned against than sinning - if we were to undergo a fraction of what they have faced, I do not doubt that many of us would have taken up much worst acts of retaliation than suicide bombings.
There's even now an insane neocon proposal to train the Georgians into a type of anti-Russia Hezbollah, but do Americans understand what it takes to "transform" a people into "fighting guerillas/terrorists" ?

To end their hatred of the West, most of them must be assured of a viable future of co-existence. Without justice for them, how can we expect peace in return?

Qwerty.
I don't understand what the linked article has to do with this subject but will address a misunderstanding. The discussion in the orginal article was clearly on tactics and strategy and was completely devoid of ideology. Hezbollah's success has been studied by those who deal with insurgencies; Nasrallah studied
Che and Mao among others. The original piece mentioned the a devastating Chechan attack on Russian forces.
The author of the alternet piece is a wanker with no military experience.
Context is everything. Here is the link to the original article:

If you'd read my post, I'm not addressing the issue of Georgian military perse, but to highlight what it is that turn normal Muslim peoples into hated Muslim "terrorists". People believe the crap that Muslims hate us for our "freedom", and that they want to impose a pan-"Islamofascism" upon us, when the reverse is true, we have been imposing brutal regimes of occupation upon them and have attacked their societies with impunity. By we, I mean Americans, Europeans, Israelis and Russians. What turns them into "insurgents", "terroists", "guerillas"? Read the article and know what they have been going through.

The Georgian military has nothing to do with this issue, but the oppression that Hezbollah themselves undergo described by Gary Brecher in the article sheds a counterlight to the "Obsession" propaganda making the rounds. It is assumed that this "hatred" exists in a vacuum when in fact our mass killing and destruction of their societies, our brutality, aggression and oppression have contributed in hardening them and turning them into angry, desperate peoples who strap bombs on themselves. Hezbollah is a heroic organization among Muslims because they stood up to the Israeli air and ground blitz with primitive weapons and tactics, but what's most important isn't their military succcess, but what they have had to go through to become what they are today, a reviled "terrorist" force. Without knowing their suffering, we're passing judgment on their political stance and actions without the proper "context".

This act of bigotry is appalling and disgraceful. But it is also just as appalling that it isn't on any of the big new channels. The hypocrisy and double standards of this society never fail to amaze me.

Some Muslims think the War Against Terror is the War Against Islam.
Words DO matter. Is spraying a chemical irritant through the window of a Mosque not an act or terrorism? Of course it is. And so, how does fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here address this problem?
Are we fighting Muslims--or are we fighting Terrorists? If we ARE fighting terrorists--then--is it ok if we use Terrorism to fight Terrorists? May we use unmaned drone aircraft to rain death and destruction down on villages with children and mothers and down on wedding parties? Is this a form of terrorism? What do you think the brother of the dead groom thinks? Is he 'terrorized'?
What are we REALLY fighting? And WHO are we really fighting? What is the difference between sending a missile to blow up a building, and using a commercial jet to blow up a building? Is the building not destroyed? Are the civilians not dead? Until we can answer these questions clearly, then WHAT are we fighting for? Are we fighting for PEACE? Are we fighting for their HEARTS and MINDS? Or are we fighting FIRE with FIRE? Arewe simply a nest of angy hornets, mad as hell and not going to take it anymore? Is that OK? Is it ok if we attack everybody who looks like the guys that whacked our Hornet's Nest?

So Muslim children can get gassed in this country, and not a peep out of the MSM. And you wonder why people hate us.
The right-wing fundamentalist Christians who demonize Muslim are our version of the Islamo-fascists, these churches are our madrasses, where hate is taught and violence bred.

Here's an article with an account from one of the women who was at the mosque at the time of the attack.

This is shocking but I know it shouldn't be. When one of the biggest reasons people are giving for not voting for Obama is that they think he's Muslim, what can you expect?
It pisses me off that the Bushies have painted all Muslims as terrorists, and it PO's me that the mainstream media ignores stories like this and rarely mentions the thousands upon thousands of Iraqi civilians who've died because of our invasion.

In the words of Olbermann, its something that you knew all along as fact, but when its finally revealed, its still amazingly shocking.
We all knew that there are Republican terrorists out there. Timothy McVeigh is the classic counter to Ann Coulter's bigoted remarks that all the terrorists are Muslim. We all know the clip on The Daily Show showing an ignorant woman saying she would not vote for Obama because she was "tired of Hussein."
We all know that there are people in this country who hate Muslims because their bad apples are in other countries but refuse to recognize the existence of Christian or Jewish bad apples because they are in (Hannity's) AMERICA. The "Republican" Party thrives on this bigotry, and has attempted to fan it for the past few decades. If John McCain denounces this act, it will be fake, because we all know the "Republicans" in actuality approve of this heinous crime.
We all know that the mentality exists. But it still shocks us when someone acts based on that mentality.
And you know what? It should shock us.

I am so appalled--at the bigots and the MSM--that I can barely comment. This is not a reflection of the America I love. May the terrorists, and I'm talking the ones who gassed the mosque, suffer swift and LEGAL retribution.

Can we blame that zionist group for distributing this video - I've also seen it on a fundie-mental Krisschun TV broadcast?
Are zionists at fault?
How about krischuns?

They are in bed with one another. The Christians that purport to be huge Israel supporters are working toward fulfilling end-time prophecies. The Zionists who take their support are happy to take the money, even when they know why the Christians groups support them.
It's deeply ugly on several levels.

Disturbing historical irony: this took place about 7 weeks prior to the 70th anniversary of Kristallnacht.

As an atheist, raised as a reform Jew, my experience was that my "community" tended toward social liberalism and vociferously anti-bigotry. While I see today's Jewish community as more split than when I was a kid, it is not so much as the MSM represents it to be. Jewish republicans are a small minority in the community and, the community is often, if not a majority of the time, in disagreement with Israel's conservative policies. American Jews are overwhelmingly registered Democrats.
Most often today people using the term Zionist are using it as a generalized code word by those wanting to disguise their own or other's anti-Semitic bigotry. Today the term properly is meant to refer to the return of Jews to their original homelands and that they have self-governance.
In some sence, it's like Blacks using the word nigger amounst themselves in no way bares any relationship in meaning relative to when a white uses the same word. Therefor, I suggest care in how and when the term is used.
Trust me, Jews would not taint themselves by having anything to do with that video.
Just as disturbing as this DVD is (though I have only heard about it, the Pentecostalish "Jesus Camp" truly scared the shit out of me and one of those nut-cases is on the Republican ticket.

Fucking Terrorism. In this country. Not a goddamned word of it on the news. The Gassing of children in middle fucking America. Disgusting...just...Jesus Christ.
I hope everyone who hasn't exceeded their per-month submission quota to their op-ed pages has something to send tomorrow. This can't be allowed to go unchallenged.

I've checked Google, Yahoo and Dogpile a couple of times today for any mainstream coverage about this incident but there is still nothing. Only blogs mention the Dayton mosque.
It's a crying shame.

I want to highlight the point that much worse has happened in Iraq and Guantanomo Bay to innocent Muslims than gassing, many of them teens and children, under the aegis of this nation. Children tortured to make their fathers talk, etc. Is it any surprise that when the nation isn't outraged by that which is done to random kidnapped Muslims abroad in the name of "Homeland Security" (the Nazi analogies are soooo uncanny), they're also immune to feeling outrage at this episode at home? For a large swathe of Americans, Muslims are the new enemy, at home or abroad.
I keep an image of a young Iraqi father holding and kissing the body of his dead 2 yr old son on my desktop to remind myself of the atrocities done to them in the name of "War on Terror". Why are these DAILY tragedies missing from our frontpages and ONLY published on anti-war sites? Will a future generation accuse us of being like Good Germans who averted our eyes?
