Obama: "If You Believe That, I've Got A Bridge In Alaska To Sell You"

This is a fantastic new line from Obama, in my opinion.  I hope everyone of his surrogates starts using it as the shorthand for McCain's lies.

Here's the story at Huffington (linked to Dkos):

"if you think those lobbyists are working day and night for John McCain just to put themselves out of business, well then I've got a bridge to sell you up in Alaska."

I haven't heard John McCain saying "Thanks, but no thanks." Of course he WOULD say that if he thought he would get some votes for it.

I just loved McCain's comments about the finacial fiasco today. What did he say?

"We're going to clean up Wallstreet!" (to cheers, I might add)

What is so sad is that McCain hasn't got the slightest clue how to "clean up wallstreet." He doesn't even know how wallstreet works. He is so clueless it is pathetic. Will anyone ask him for specifics? Anyone want to make a bet?

I wouldn't quite say he doesn't know anything, he sat in on some S&L meetings back in the day.

I agree that's a great line by Obama.

Gee, our guy does have some political chops, doesn't he?

The Repubs actually thought he had no backbone and would be out-thunk by someone who graduated at the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy (who would never have been accepted without the legacy) and another who had to transfer five times just to get a stinkin' degree in Sportscasting at the prestigious University of Idaho.

If McCain weren't so smart he wouldn't have graduated ahead of four other losers at the Naval Academy.

The party of ENRON, Jack Abramhoff and lyin Karl Rove ain't gonna clean out anything but the US Treasury.

I don't like this line at all. He voted twice for that bridge, why keep this up, especially when he finally started on economy.

As has been mentioned over and over, in the Senate the bridge funding was bundled into a larger infrastructure bill. There is a world of difference between funding lightrail, etc., and specifically wanting to build the Bridge to Nowhere. If you're going to claim intellectual honesty, then let's be intellectually honest.

There isn't anything intellectual about lalo. Post-rational is what comes to mind when I see him speak.

Could you please surprise us literate types and write a coherent sentence using proper names for subjects and objects instead of unreferenced pronoun place-holders?

Lalo, there's nothing about this line that indicates either a positive or a negative about the issue of the Bridge in re allocation of government funds. That's absurd. What Obama's referencing is the McCain campaign's flimflam about the Bridge, they're selling a bill of goods, just like a con artist trying to sell a sucker the Brooklyn Bridge. You think that old line had anything to do with whether or not the Brooklyn Bridge was a good idea to build or not?

Get a grip. It's friggin' gorgeous line.

"Lalo, there's nothing about this line that indicates either a positive or a negative about the issue of the Bridge in re allocation of government funds. That's absurd."

Just met our resident troll clown? His middle line is absurd. LOL

Ah, Lalo, are you familiar with the term "earmark"? Because I can assure you there was never a bill presented before the Senate entitled, "The Sarah Palin-Alaska Bridge To Nowhere Bill". Try not being an idiot for several minutes every day. Eventually you'll get the hang of it.

But he's not basing his campaign on a lie that he opposed it. Some small questions about whether he voted for that bridge or simply voted for the whole package, like everyone else, not aware of all the pork in it.

But the main point is, he's not the one lying about it, PALIN is.

I agree with Lalo that it's a concern. Remember, these are the same people that falsely accused Obama (and before that, Kerry) of voting to raise taxes and cut off funding for our troops by spinning technicalities of parliamentary procedure. Two things to consider, though: First, Obama isn't trying to sell his candidacy on the falsehood that he rejected the bridge. Second, McCain-Palin have so identified themselves with this issue that it may be hard for them to turn around and slap Obama with it.

It's a concern for those who let it become a concern. That is why it's important to correct misinformation/obfuscation where it crops up and nip it in the bud. I think Obama/Biden are in a much better position to refute this claim than Kerry was in his "I was for it before I was against it" gaffe.

Answer to the question of whether or not Obama can be tied to the Bridge to Nowhere in any meaningful or substantive way:

If you believe that, I've got a bridge in Alaska I can sell you.

That fucking plagiarist stole my line...

Now she don't claim to want any bridges But she can sell you one 'Cuz maybe by pretending she never liked bridges She can win your vote for John
From (What a) Wonderful Veep...

Hey man, don't you know property is theft (or something like that).

Actually, I was thinking about this and we all make so many suggestions to Obama on this site that we should have some sort of "not copyrighted" logo--to give Obama's campaign freedom to user our ideas without attribution.

er. use.

Obama's line is better than yours. Sorry Genghis.

☠enghis, will you please tell us how to turn your collar off? :-P

You'll have pay for it. I'll soon be holding a shirt-off fundraiser for Obama.

Hey buddy I know how you feel. When I was in college Alan Keyes came to speak about ending A. Action and I said "You can't pull yourself up by your bootstraps if you haven't got any boots".

I just chalk it up to- "great minds think alike".CR 2008

Hey, tell me about it. I wrote to Frank Rich recently and used the line "Palin-OldWhatsHisName". Then he posts this:

Amateurs borrow; professionals appropriate.

Wow. He may actually have appropriated that, the bastard. Congrats.

Obama's remark hurts those who have to take the ferry everyday instead of the bridge to the regional airport.

No, his remark hurts politicians who want to tell lies about their record. I'd think the people of that island would be the most mad at the way she threw THEM under the bus by now claiming their request was wasteful.

I actually never thought that was a good example of the WORST of government pork. It would have built a bridge, a large piece of infrastructure to stand for decades, unlike the $billion we spend every few days in Iraq, and maybe the population would not have been so small forever.

But it reminds people that Palin lies about what she supported. From the start, she should have said it was not the terrible boondoggle everyone thought it was but instead she claimed to have always been against it.

And if you still believe Palin, I've got a mobile WMD lab in Iraq to sell you.

But he's not basing his campaign on a lie that he opposed it. Some small questions about whether he voted for that bridge or simply voted for the whole package, like everyone else, not aware of all the pork in it.

But the main point is, he's not the one lying about it, PALIN is.
