Palin is Sincere; And That's What's Dangerous

I just finished watching a number of revealing youtube videos that showcase Sarah Palin speaking in a couple of different churches.  Palin is very sincere, earnest, enthusiastic even.  She speaks in church cadence, she invokes various prayers with little effort and connects her life story to the events of the day.  Sarah Palin is at least as sincere as George W. Bush about her religion but unlike W., who actually never fully embraced the evangelical movement (though he could manipulate its currency well enough,) she is completely committed to a belief in pre-millenial dispensationalism, the belief that mankind passes through various periods marked by serious calamities until the end times (coming soon) and the thousand year reign of Christ.  I am not offering a criticism of religion in general or millenialists  specifically.  I am stating that a sincere person who does believe these things, as Sarah Palin does, will use those beliefs to inform their decision making.  Events in the Middle East, always in flux, will be interpreted as portents of the coming apocalypse.  Don't take my word for it.  Visit John Hagee's website; he and Pat Roberts have interpreted everything from Ariel Sharon's stroke to the war with Lebanon as heralding the impending era.
From her pastor, who declares that Alaska will be a refuge state in the end-times, to her own description of the Iraq war as a task from God, we can see that Sarah Palin is, well, sincere.  That's the problem.  If anyone is interested in learning more about this topic I would recommend Gershom Gorenberg's End of Days.

I agree, she is totally sincere!

Except when she lies on national TV although that does not really count since most everything on TV is fictional anyway.

What do you think? Of course she is 'sincere' when she speaks. The only thing this proves is her Republican credentials, she can lie with the best of them, and maybe even better.

Tonight's speech is scripted. I'm waiting for the debates. I actually can't wait. I hope that the McCain campaign keeps her in a closet until then. America will be starved to know what this idiot thinks and Gwen Ifill (I think) will get to the bottom of it (I hope).

Anyway you look at it, as long as Obama/Biden don't attack too fiercely, it's a win/win for the Democratic ticket.
