Palin's AIP connected to terrorists

AIP'S TERRORIST FRIENDS

Because John McCain has not learned how to 'watch the internet' or 'use the Google,' it has been left to the public to vet Sarah Palin for him. I was curious what shady types would attend separatist conventions, such as the one in Tennessee, where the AIP Vice Chairman Dexter Clark extolled the virtues of their candidate Sarah Palin. http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oe-brooks4-2008sep04,0,5675222.column I expected that hatred for the American Federal Government would bring white supremacists (as speculated in the Daily Kos: http://larry-madill.dailykos.com/ ) and small time individual hate criminals into their circus tent. But I did not expect AIP to link itself to a foreign terrorist group personally funded by Osama Bin Laden, that has been merging into Al Qaeda for years, is linked to 4 of the 9/11 hijackers, and other Al Qaeda attacks. That's right, the Palins are only 2 or 3 degrees removed from the man that McCain swears he would pursue to the gates of hell (Osama Bin Laden). Links below:

The LA Times broke the story that the AIP has a link to the Chechen separatists on its website. "The AIP's website also provides helpful links to other secessionist groups, including the Southern Independence Party of Tennessee (which boasts of going after "these Politically Correct Liberal Communist[s]"), Ulster nationalists and Chechen separatists." http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oe-brooks4-2008sep04,0,5675222.column Remembering the Beslan school and hospital massacres, and Russian bus and tram bombings, I had to read that twice. I have now compiled an overview of the increasingly indistinguishable relationship between the AIP's Chechen friends and Al Qaeda:

The Al Qaeda/Chechen Separatist relationship has been evolving since the 1990s. The Bush Administration initially downplayed the Russian assertions that the Chechen terrorists were affiliated with Al Qaeda. However, President Bush later acknowledged Russia's claims, stating: "We do believe there's some al Qaeda folks in Chechnya." http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/chronicle/archive/2001/11/22/MN85469.DTL 'Washington also called on Chechen separatists to "cut all contact with international terrorist groups."' http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/chronicle/archive/2001/11/22/MN85469.DTL

'Some terrorism experts say the West erred by dismissing Russia's claims for so long', Rohan Gunaratna, the author of "Inside Al Qaeda" states, "The initial wave of terrorists who are now coming to Europe trained in Chechnya or Algeria".

http://www.mindfully.org/Reform/2003/Jihad-In-Chechnya26apr03.htm "According to the U.S. State Department, the Islamic International Peacekeeping Brigade (IIPB) is the primary channel for Islamic funding of the Chechen guerillas, in part through links to al-Qaeda-related financiers on the Arabian Peninsula." http://www.cfr.org/publications/9181/

It now appears that the Chechen separatists receive funding even more directly than via Al Qaeda channels, being personally funded by Osama Bin Laden himself. "Russia is exaggerating al Qaeda's contribution but not bin Laden's interest in the Chechen rebel cause. According to Gunaratna, the terrorist leader used a Persian Gulf bank to help finance the militants, at one point even ordering an investigation into whether some Chechen leaders had siphoned off funds for themselves." http://www.mindfully.org/Reform/2003/Jihad-In-Chechnya26apr03.htm

The central strategic importance to Al Qaeda of the Chechen separatists against the United States was explained by Bin Laden's #2 man, Ayman al-Zawahiri (who was himself captured and released in 1997 while trying to enter Chechnya): "This poses a direct threat to the United States....the only thing that will separate them from Afghanistan will be the neutral state of Turkmenistan. This will form a mujahid Islamic belt to the south of Russia...." resulting in "....fragmentation of the Russian Federation....will topple a basic ally of the United States in its battle against the Islamic jihadist reawakening." http://www.meforum.org/article/744

The 'chief ideologue of the separatists and a "terrorist"' was the former Chechen President Yandarbiyev (until he was blown up in Qatar). http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C0DE3DD1F3AF937A25751C0A9629C8B63 "Yanderbiyev was not judged to be a terrorist by Russia alone - he was on the UN blacklist as well. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m_qn4158/is_20061121/ai_n16856084

Yanderbiyev was on the "United Nations list of groups and people with suspected links to Osama bin Laden's network, Al Qaeda." http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C0DE3DD1F3AF937A25751C0A9629C8B63

The roles of Chechen separatist commanders and foreign Al Qaeda commanders stationed in Chechnya in terrorist attacks can be seen graphically in anti-terrorism expert Evan Kohlmann's chart (with dotted red boxes around their photos): http://www.globalterroralert.com/islamicarmycaucusas3.pdf

(Kohlman is a terrorism expert witness for the Feds, who has personally interviewed Osama Bin Laden [before 9/11], and has interviewed 500+ insurgents in Iraq.) The role of Chechen separatists in the journey of 4 of the 9/11 hijackers is detailed in 'How Chechnya Became a Breeding Ground for Terror,' by terrorism expert Lorenzo Vidino, in the Middle East Quarterly, 2005 http://www.meforum.org/article/744 'Islamist terrorists have co-opted the Chechen cause as part of the global jihad. Umar Ibn al-Khattab, a Saudi native who became the leader of the foreign mujahideen in Chechnya, said, "This is not just a Chechen matter...like Afghanistan."' http://www.meforum.org/article/744 A request from Ibn al-Khattab (Al Qaeda commander in Chechnya) to Al Qaeda operative Sakka on the Turkish border sent Sakka and his men to Afghanistan for combat training because "the Chechens needed trained fighters", where their training and ability to counterfeit passports came in handy. This re-direction of Al Qaeda resources sent four young Saudi students bound for Chechnya on "a path that was to end with the September 11 attacks on America in 2001. They were: Ahmed and Hamza al-Ghamdi who hijacked the plane that crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Center; their companion Saeed al-Ghamdi whose plane crashed in a Pennsylvania field; and Nawaf al-Hamzi who died in the Pentagon crash." http://www.meforum.org/article/744 Russia corroborates this connection, insisting that "the Saudi-born commander who goes by the name Khattab, was sponsored by suspected terrorist mastermind

Osama bin Laden and his al Qaeda network. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/chronicle/archive/2001/11/22/MN85469.DTL "Al-Qaeda's involvement in Chechnya has grown steadily." Under paragraph, "Al-Qaeda Adopts the Chechen Cause":

http://www.meforum.org/article/744

The affiliation of Chechen separatists with Al Qaeda is reported to have been voluntary at first, but later was compulsory, according to one Chechen Imam, "Join us or we'll cut your head off." According to Gunaratna, the this Imam was originally part of a secular separatist movement, which was "recast" by Al Qaeda as part of an international jihad. http://www.mindfully.org/Reform/2003/Jihad-In-Chechnya26apr03.htm

You can bet that McCain did not do his homework on this one. If a Democratic candidate, or their spouse, were a friend of a friend of Bin Laden, this election would be over!

Thanks. Good info.I've recommended your post. Btw, you can also recommend your own posts, so be sure to do that. That way others are more likely to see them.

Thanks

Rec'd.

1) Thanks, but Palin's AIP connection myth has been debunked.

2) Could you hit the Submit button a few more times? We love seeing multiple posts by new blogger-trolls.

HER membership has been debunked, however her husband was a card carrying member from 1995-2002.

Think that would bother people if it was Michelle?

Her ties to the group are well documented. Along with her husband's MEMBERSHIP in this terrorist-link group, there's also her frequent contact and well-wishing videos that are out there.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwvPNXYrIyI

Wishing a terrorist-linked group well??

But it gets worse!!!

An Alaskan blog has some explosive info and a video:

http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/09/08/palin-republican-party-infiltrator-damning-video/

“Our current governor, we mentioned at the last conference, the one we were hoping would get elected, Sarah Palin, did get elected. There’s a joke, she’s a pretty good looking gal, there’s a joke goes around we’re the coldest state with the hottest governor. (laughter) And there was a lot of talk about her moving up. She was an AIP member before she got the job as a mayor of a small town — that was a non-partisan job. But to get along and go along — she eventually joined the Republican Party, where she had all kinds of problems with their ethics, and well, I won’t go into that. She also had about an 80% approval rating, and is pretty well sympathetic to her former membership.“

Is Sarah Palin an infiltrator? It sure seems so.

I am glad you put the link to the mudflats post and AIP video. Thanks. More people need to see this.

As much as I would LOVE it if this was true, all you have is a person saying she was a member. The official voter registration shows she never changed her affiliation, at least not officially. Since the party in question is a legitimate party in Alaska, her welcoming them via a tape is not the smoking gun we would like it to be.

maybe this small thing combined w/ more small things might help, but let's face it...short of something REALLY big, this election is no longer about the reality of Sarah Palin, it's the myth people have already bought...

1) Thanks, but Palin's AIP connection myth has been debunked.

The FUCK it has.

Here's GOVERNOR Sarah Palin, in March of THIS YEAR, addressing the AIP on video, praising them, stating her "delight" to welcome delegates to the 2008 AIP convention, how the party "plays an important role in our state's politics", how she "share[s] your party's vision of upholding the Constitution of 'our great state'", wishing them "good luck on a successful and inspiring convention," and exhorting them to "keep up the good work", finishing with (what else?) "God bless you."

With ties going as far back as 1994.

Yep.

And AIP apparently views her as an infiltrator (See link above)

Checked out the link, thanks. Your comment wasn't 100% clear IMHO (although the quote you posted helped) -- so just to clarify for us literal folk: According to the blog post, the AIP sees her as "one of their own" infiltrating the Babylon of the Republican party (or something like that), rather than as someone who infiltrated the AIP (which is another way "an infiltrator" could have been interpreted).

I'm not sure I'm prepared to take it quite as far as the mudflats blogger did, but maybe I will on a second reading. Even without that, it's pretty damning stuff, at least to a rational mind. That the Republicans and corporate media would jump all over Obama for associations with Wright and simply ignore this -- given Palin's ringing endorsement of the party THIS YEAR -- is pretty staggering stuff. Of course, that's par for the GOP course. Where is the endless-loop repeat of this stuff?

A kettle-troll calling the pot black. Priceless.

Uh, no. readytoblowagasket is a contrarian, someone I've disagreed with in print in numerous threads, but no troll.

I wish we would quit this. People who post contrarian opinions are not necessarily trolls. I think there needs to be some kind of corollary of Godwin's law to cover this.

Appreciated, gharlane. We've occasionally agreed, too, I think.

her membership was debunked only because they retracted the truth with a lie. see the leader of AIP say Sarah was a member and only became Republican to "get along and go along with the establishment"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E46_ZVzBf9U&feature=related

Hopefully this will have legs. This is pretty scary stuff.

Hopefully this will have legs. This is pretty scary stuff.

Her AIP member ship is NOT a myth and most definitely has NOT been debunked. Because the Repubs say her voter registration card says otherwise?

Do we really believe she would leave that kind of record. She's not that stupid.

And why would an AIP member, in a meeting with other members claim Palin was a member if this wasn't the case. We're not talking about someone on the street who claims she was a member. This is from the mouth of another member at one of their meetings and should be taken seriously. The Dems should not let this rest. I don't know why they are treading so lightly about this.

This matter is serious and needs to be thoroughly investigated - with the same level of media attention Obama received over Reverend Wright. This is a MUCH BIGGER deal!

corr: membership

A video from the AIP shows them claiming that Palin is not really a Republican, but is a secret AIP member who infiltrated the GOP:

Before I made my comment, I looked at otispfudpucker's profile, where I found a treasure trove of conspiracy theories in various comment threads. Hence my awarding him the title of "troll."

Following are two credible sources that debunk Sarah Palin's connection to AIP.

Mother Jones: There's no documentary evidence now that Palin was a member.

Lynette Clark after she learned that Sarah Palin has been a registered Republican since 1982 and has never changed her registration: Clark on Tuesday night said she was mistaken.

It's a free country; everyone can believe what they want.

Me? I prefer hard evidence.

And, I still believe in the presumption of innocence. As far as I know, "beliefs" are not yet equivalent to "crimes." And, sorry, but I have yet to be convinced of any crimes that Sarah Palin has committed.

I don't know, rtbag. Somehow "no evidence of any crimes committed" is not exactly the bar I'd pick in terms of choosing a Vice President, or a President.

We're not trying Sarah Palin for crimes (not yet, anyway). We're choosing a President and Vice President. Policies, beliefs, and associations, among other things, are completely fair game in that context.

This "no crimes" and "presumption of innocence" meme was also pounded by the right during the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings. His surrogates were all out there with "Innocent Until Proven Guilty!" The obvious response (which too few made at the time, and they were drowned out by the right wing noise machine) is: "We're confirming a Supreme Court Justice to a lifetime appointment. Not trying someone for a crime in a court of law." The standards are different. Same here.

If you want to argue why Palin's wet video kiss to the AIP in March of this year is irrelevant, or her 14-year history of convention attendance and other sundry support, feel free. When choosing a Vice President -- especially on a ticket with the chutzpah to have as its slogan "Country First!", I beg to differ.

And it's highly amusing to see all those who couldn't stop yelling "Farrakhan! Wright! Ayers!" bobbing and weaving and excusing Palin's little foray into secession-land.

"Country first," my ass.

OK if we want to play the guilt by association game, how's this: Obama spent 20 years as a close associate of Rev. Wright. Wright brought Farrakhan to speak at his church, gave him an award, and had a link to his Nation of Islam site on the church web page. Nation of Islam has made anti-semitic statements and has had direct dealings with Khadafy of Libya, a known terror sponsor. So Obama has terrorist connections. Or how about this: Obama worked directly with Bill Ayres. He had fundraisers and parties with him at his home. Ayres is a terrorist who bombed sites in the USA. Therefore Obama has terrorist connections. How's that?

uh, CleverDog, it's already been done. It's being done right now. All over the place. Haven't you noticed?

Only difference is, shoe's on the other foot now. And boy, are the rightwingnuts howling.
