Palin's Daughter Pregnant

The NYT just put this up:

The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin's five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

Two things: 1) DS babies tend to be small and it is not unusual for women pregnant with those fetuses to stay small as well. So, I hope we can stop talking about Palin's pregnancies. 2) Does Alaska have "abstinence" programs in place? Most of us wouldn't care much about this if it didn't concern a possible future POTUS who is anti-choice and anti-contraception. Seems the only way for such people to avoid unwanted pregnancies is to abstain. That's a fine choice but not everyone's, and this woman wants it to be the only route for all girls and women.

Not to go there, but chances on a 'miscarriage' just happening to happen?

Just so happens the girl we suspect of having a baby 4 months ago turns up today, out of the blue, 5 months pregnant?!? Thus making it 'impossible' for her to have had that baby?

Seems a little..hmm, what's the word..? Bullshit Convenient?!

I could be wrong and I'll be the first to say so, but from what I have heard from and of this woman so far, it really wouldn't surprise me. Not even a little.

Please don't hit me, I know I'm cynical. Bush & Co have made me this way!

I wouldn't vote for McCain under any circumstances and think Palin is an insult to our intelligence but as far as this matter goes I can only say - So what? Pregnant teens happen all the time in these fundamentalist churches, just like in the real world, and no one bats an eye as long as they "choose life" There is no political advantage to be gained by pursuing this topic because no one in "the base" will care and it's really not relative to governance. As long as the girl isn't in jail or on drugs and hasn't had an abortion it's going to be a non-issue and those pursuing it will only look they're attacking a pregnant teen and garner sympathy for Palin. There are plenty of other more promising areas to focus on.

"So what?"

You want a VP with two new born babies?

That shows that McCain has good judgement?

CFMA!!
