I had the exact same thought last night when they broke the story about her using Yahoo to conduct State business. She's a lamebrain.
Only...it's not funny.
Have to watch out for these archetypes. Lucy Ricardo was well loved. Palin could do worse.
Yup.
Andrew Sullivan makes that point outright. He finds her personally likeable - and clearly unqualified for the position that she's seeking. An important distinction. This is NOT a popularity contest. She's not running for head cheerleader here.
Actress. Ditzy. But SP has killer instincts. Very worrisome. Very. (no lucy)
That's it!! And that IS why so many people DO like her. However, I think Lucy Ricardo was actually a lot smarter (certainly more inventive) than Palin is, as that becomes clear.......
But it's important to understand what attracts other people to her, even if you aren't attracted yourself (and I'm certainly not!). Gives you a basis for talking to them. (Joe Biden mentioned that in an interview not long ago -- said that when he first came to the Senate he was appalled at some of the others, think he mentioned Jesse Helms as an example. And Mike Mansfield took him aside to remind him that *some* people must think he's pretty good because they elected him, so Joe's job, if he wanted to be able to work with or effectively against someone like that, was to figure out what those voters saw in him.)
Plus -- no matter how much you loved Lucy R, that iconic image ofher with the pizza dough dripping over her face is still not *quite* the image anyone wants of our President, or even VP. So I think it's a useful comparison - shows you see the good side but also a reminder that she's 'not quite ready for prime time'
No no no no. Lucy was funny and naive. Palin is just snarky and defensive.
I agree with you all. Her voice and some of her mannerisms remind me of Lucy, that's all.

Took me awhile to figure it out.
