Sarah Palin's Uses
There is some deep republican voodoo going on here with all this nonsense about Sarah. Remember Clarence Thomas? Thomas was an absolute nut and totally unqualified for the Court. Then there was a sex scandal. So the question turned from, is Thomas qualified to be on the Court, to is Anita Hill lying about the pube and the diet coke? The first question got answered too late for America.
Now there's all this theater around Sarah Palin and the question has now turned from should John McCain be president? to whether Sarah Palin is her own granddaughter or something. But there's more. The entire Palin pick is a red herring. Whether McCain ought to be president has now become whether Sarah Palin can serve as a diversion.

I agree. A better frame for all of this is that John McCain said that after careful vetting he selected Palin as the person most qualified to take over and we must take him at his word that he believes that is so. However, we still feel that he, himself, is so lacking in temperament and capability as to be a dangerous choice.

"we must take him at his word that he believes that is so"
Why must we when the proposition is prima facie beyond absurd.
