« The Run Up to McCain's VP Pick: No one gives a damn! | jdw's Blog | It Appears that Andrew Sullivan has been Silenced »
Thank you, Hillary?
A few months ago, we were all dreading the long democratic primary against Hillary Clinton. Aside from pushing many issues to the forefront, inspiring millions of women and men, and making Barack a stronger candidate, it appears now that her superb performance caused John McCain to make the silliest political decision in modern history. Barack should be sure to invite her to all the major celebrations :)
Here's to Hillary!

Hogwash. Just because, that which didn't kill Barack made him stronger, is no reason to give thanks to the one who was trying to kill him. You don't thank people who aimed for your destruction. To do so would amount to false gratitude.

Even if everything you say is true, I am glad that Hillary inspired John McCain into making a fool of himself :)

Regardless of whether we do or don't thank Hillary, it does seem that McCain's attempts to exploit the alleged "rift" has backfired in two significant cases.
First, all the attempts to fan the flames going into the Dem convention only made the convincing show of unity that ensued all the more visible and poignant.
Second, McCain's desperate attempt to reopen the wound by picking Palin didn't seem to be playing all that well with women even before the deluge of problems with Palin surfaced. And now the move seems especially ill-fated.
Throughout this election, McCain has consistently chosen to make building up his own candidacy take a back seat to tearing down Obama's. There's still a ways to go, but at the moment it's gratifying to see those cynical priorities lose the day.
