Ok, it's not exactly analogous, but McCain's announcement that he is suspending his campaign is a bit like Ford's 1976 "Rose Garden" strategy.  In both cases, you have candidates trying to distance themselves from a disgraced President by appearing to take the high road. Worked out great for Ford, didn't it. Good luck, McSame!
