but we need to get our response to the ACORN mess in place.
These are registrations. Not Votes.
It, at worst, caused a database problem and wasted election board officials time. It in NOW WAY represents fraudulent voters at the polls.
And how come, with the lead time of only a few weeks or days.....ACORN offices get raided, national news is made and sustained....whenever the Republicans want to make some news and some noise.
Dems have been pressing for 8 YEARS about electronic voting, illegal acts by Secs of State, unholy alliances between RNC heads and phone jammers and vote flipping, barricades at polling places, registration database purges (much more injurious than fake EXTRA registrations) etc...
and not a peep out of our corporate media.
The ReFoolagins get endless mileage out of their sham voting issue, while their real crimes go un-noticed. Real crimes like CHANGING votes, sleeping at home with bags of votes, having sherriffs remove ballots, destroy ballots, make it a crime to touch a ballot (after stealing an election.....ask Gov Siegelman and Alabama dems)
Some left-leaning organizations fooling with the registration numbers as a money-making scam
or right-leaning orgs actually stealing or flipping or disappearing real votes cast by real people?
It would be nice to whip up a nice bulleted talking point sheet on this and email it to B H O and dnc and other dem orgs (state by state) so we don't get caught flatfooted and going UM UM UM while the ReFoolagin CorpMedia runs amok with this.
Anyone here, who is good at crafting a concise memo, want to collaborate and get a strong position typed and sent?

ACORN explodes every election it seems, paying for voter registration forms with cash and cigarettes. I don't see where they do any good--if they don't have the quality control to prevent this kind of crap, they need to get out of the voter registration business.
If ACORN didn't exist, the Republican Party would have to create them--they are the perfect set-up villain for the "voter fraud" bullshit that then justifies Republican voter suppression efforts. They should be denounced by the DNC, the Obama campaign, etc.

Agreed, but...
Shouldn't there be a counterpunch...we denounce the actions of ACORN in these circumstances. But they do a lot of good.
If anyone thinks there are no republican operations trying to spoof registrations, they got another think coming.
And we feel that over-zealous voter registration is a problem...but mostly one of bloating the registration rolls. We find the ReFoolagin tactics of PURGING voter rolls to be much more troubling and we advise ALL voters to double check their registration status and be prepared to fight for your right to vote.

The ACORN flap is very likely Republican "black advance" staging. This is political Kabuki theater, Rove style. They were ginning up anti-ACORN lit back in the spring, and now they are harvesting that effort. Do we know where Tim Griffin is? This whole thing smells oddly like Time Griffin.
