Today at 11:30 the CT Supreme Court will
release their decision on same-sex marriage.

Thanks, Supreme Court:Like these once prevalent views, our conventional understanding of marriage must yield to a more contemporary appreciation of the rights entitled to constitutional protection. Interpreting our state constitutional provisions in accordance with firmly established equal protection principles leads inevitably to the conclusion that gay persons are entitled to marry the otherwise qualified same sex partner of their choice. To decide otherwise would require us to apply one set of constitutional principles to gay persons and another to all others. The guarantee of equal protection under the law, and our obligation to uphold that command, forbids us from doing so. In accordance with these state constitutional requirements, same sex couples cannot be denied the freedom to marry.Rally at 5:30, party at 7pm (tba).

This is a big win for liberals, progressives and anyone else that has been pushing for marriage equality. Celebrate it!

It can also be seen as very poor timing as now the rabid right will re-inject the gay marriage issue into the last days of the election. Aside from that...

In CT the right wing have been trying to push the idea of having citizen driven ballot initiatives like they do in California and other states. The fact that the wingnuts use these divisive issues simply as a ploy in the hopes of bringing out their base is an abuse of what should be a good part of an open democracy.
In CT this win dopes not change anything for these elections. It also sets an important precedent for this issue on the judicial side of things. They have affirmed the truth that all men and women are equal and deserve to be treated that way.
That is something worth celebrating!
