Fri/Sat 2nd Chance Clearinghouse For Posts That Deserve Another Look- Updated Daily
This post is a clearing house for links to posts that flew by too fast, or didn't get the attention they deserved, or were too good to go away even if they made it to reader rec.
If you add a link, please give a brief description along w/ your reasons for why it deserves a 2nd look. ANYONE can add a link here.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE stop by everyday to rec this post, even if you don't add anything, or
read anything on it...It only works if it gets up to reader rec, thus making the posts available for longer.
If it BARELY makes Reader rec, it gets kicked off early. Today we lost about 10 good links, and w/ no access to the archives, they are VERY difficult to find.
This is a GREAT tool, but if we don't use it, we lose it.

Deanie Mills scores again w/ a wonderful post about her son's service and Republican friends...Long, but well worth the read.

It might be useful to include a link to the previous day's 2nd Chance Clearinghouse post, and to put a link in a comment there pointing back to the current one when you set it up.
A linked list would make it easier for readers to navigate if they want to catch up on more than a day's worth of missed posts.

Thank you so much...That is a great idea. All suggestions for making this post more useful and relevant are appreciated. It is a community effort!

Nit's comment is a compliment, still. Good job done by all.

I certainly meant it to be a compliment! Thanks for doing this, everyone.
It just seems I have bad timing on checking in on these threads, so I miss a lot if I don't go search for the older 2nd chance post - a direct link would make that easier.

Here's a nice deconstruction of the main street myth by Laurel Wroten. I think it might be her first post, and it's a home run.

The literary figure that McCain most reminds me of is Captain Ahab from Moby Dick. I wrote this post back in Aug with some really good quotes from Ahab and Starbuck that I feel continue to shed light on McCain's existential predicament.

One of the best illustrations of income disparity and distorted values in America I've ever seen.

Two sentences that show exactly why the McCain/Palin rallies are so dangerous...

The "Recent Archives" links at the bottom of the Reader Posts page have finally been fixed! Yay!
I recommend that people do what I do: basically ignore the Reader Posts page, and look at the whole set of posts of the most current week page instead--there is no arbitrary cut off of posts, you see all the posts. If you go immediately to the full week page, you don't end up having to scroll through the most recent ones you've already seen.
(Towards the end of the week it gets to be a big page load but I don't have any problem getting it all on dial-up service. And it's easy to scroll through. And the more people use it, the more management will eventually see the need to cut it into shorter pages.)
This thread is still a good service but now more people can add to it by looking at the weekly page. They can also recommend recent posts that have scrolled off the Reader Posts page and those can still get to the Recommended list if enough do so.

Aargh, sorry for the formatting mistake. Meant to have a link to the Reader Posts page
http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/
just so people knew what I was talking about.
On the right side menu of Reader Posts, it's called "All Reader Posts." Scroll down to the bottom of that page for the most recent week link without cut off.

Thanks for the heads up...I've been checking the archives nearly every day to see if they were working, but hadn't done it today! That will make life a lot easier...I know I've missed a lot of great posts.
If you run across any that you find worthwhile, please add them here. I'm going to use the suggestion that Nit made to add a link to the prior day's 2nd chance post. I've felt a little like adding links towards the end of this post's run is a bit of a waste of time...this will make it accessible for even longer.

I want to put my post "My Month Long Contribution" in here. I don't know. It didn't really get the exposure I had hoped, because of all the damn server problems. I posted it twice, and one time it ended up in the Muckraker for some reason, and not the Election Central, where I post ALL my blog entries. Anyway...

The server has been giving me problems. I didn't see any of that.

This was put out by the Obama-Biden campaign in response to character attacks on Barack and Michelle and e-mailed to supporters:
Who is Barack Obama?
http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/4days
John McCain keeps asking this question at his rallies -- then he gives answers that are shockingly false and negative.
That's why it's vital that you sign up to volunteer for at least one day during the final days of this election. Voters won't know the truth about Barack unless supporters like you reach out to them.
I also wanted to share a video of personal moments from behind the scenes at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, so you can see Barack and Michelle as they are -- decent, warm, and kind people with a loving family.
Watch the video and get to know the Obamas a little better. Then sign up to volunteer on a crucial day before the Election:
Our opponents try to stir up doubt and fear by questioning who Barack really is -- as if after more than a decade in public office, more than 20 months on the campaign trail, dozens of debates, two books written by him and dozens more about him, people still don't have enough information to decide for themselves who should lead our country.
Millions of Americans have gotten to know Barack Obama as an American who's devoted his life to things bigger than himself -- his community, his country, and ordinary citizens looking for a voice.
Our challenge now is to do the same -- to devote these last weeks to a cause bigger than ourselves.
These tough economic times make our cause more urgent and the stakes even higher. Barack needs your help to win this election and bring the change we need to Washington.
Can you give a day of your time during the last four days of the election?
Watch the video, share it with others, and get involved:
http://my.barackobama.com/4Days
Only 24 days remain until Election Day. Won't you commit at least one to ensure our victory?
