My Fellow Prisoners
I know it's too much to hope for, but it's exciting to think that John McCain's "my fellow prisoners" gaffe might be more than a simple slip of the tongue.
Maybe, under the pressure of the campaign, McCain has slipped back in time to relive his Vietnam experience.
If McCain imagines he is back in Hanoi and we are all in prison with him, this is going to be an incredible month.
If we're the prisoners, who are our torturers? Who are the anti-war demonstrators? Who are the liberals, turning our notes over to the Vietnamese?
No matter. One thing we shouldn't expect is that John McCain will back off from this fight. He's going to fight tooth and nail whether he thinks he's back in prison or not.

I'll never forget how you savaged Obama during the primaries calling him a con-man and attacking anyone who supported him as being mindless followers of a snake oil salesman.

I doubt I used such a trite image as "snake oil salesman."

Did you notice that the Hive is circulating a petition of support for Bill Ayers? I was provoked into doing an Annals Of The Hive blog. Thanks for the documentary. I was there for a lot of that. Was in SDS for a while, but I don't think I met any Weathermen. I was glad when they blew themselves up. Striking thing about the doc is the bozos still believe they had something to do with ending the war.

What's interesting about the McCain Myth is that it is a double edged sword for him. Or two opposing ideas. The McCain campaign leans on the positive one, for obvious reasons, the "War Hero," the man-who-endured-great-horrors-in-the-name-of-the US. The other side of it is the erratic, angry man, produced as a result perhaps of PTSD. His suicide attempt. Each side leaves out bits and pieces of the whole, and may shed facts to perpetuate their view, of course.
But it seems that people are more influenced by one or the other here, which I'm sure is correlated with political ideology and whose side you're on in this election. My mother, for example - a famously stubborn person. She's long been convinced he's unstable, and has been claiming for months that he's going to have a "POW moment." I don't think she's seen this yet. But for people who that is a concern for already, his recent actions, and this comment, won't do much to alleviate those concerns. She was a solid Obama voter anyway. But I wonder, if there are undecideds out there holding out because they're not so sure that McCain is that "steady head" he advocates.

Thinking on it more, that's really one of McCain's biggest problems. For a man who wants to run on character, that self-admitted flaw is one of his greatest foes in this campaign.
Which is of course, why the Democratic ads are playing into that perception.
What's hilarious about this is that I've seen some attempts at defending this by giving examples of Obama's bad temper. They're great. Really. Here's one:
