Time Magazine on Palin Administration: "Shockingly Amateurish"
Time magazine has an article up today on the Troopergate report, "What the Troopergate Report Really Says."
http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1849399,00.html?xid=site-cnn-partner
Things we learned:
"Did Governor Sarah Palin abuse the power of her office in trying to get her former brother-in-law, State Trooper Mike Wooten, fired? Yes."
That's the big one, of course, and sharply indercuts any stand on trustworthiness the McCain/Palin camp claimed to have over the "unknown" Obama.
But what the report really sheds light on, is just how vindictive and unprofessional Alaska's Palin administration has been:
"The result is not a mortal wound to Palin, nor does it put her at much risk of being forced to leave the ticket her presence succeeded in energizing."
"But the Branchflower report still makes for good reading, if only because it convincingly answers a question nobody had even thought to ask: Is the Palin administration shockingly amateurish? Yes, it is. Disturbingly so."
Shockingly amateurish? Haven't we already suffered through eight years of inept, vindictive government?
"A harsh verdict? Consider the report's findings. Not only did people at almost every level of the Palin administration engage in repeated inappropriate contact with Walt Monegan and other high-ranking officials at the Department of Public Safety, but Monegan and his peers constantly warned these Palin disciples that the contact was inappropriate and probably unlawful. Still, the emails and calls continued — in at least one instance on recorded state trooper phone lines."
In the end, it looks like not much will actually happen in Alaska in regards to any kind of punishment being levied against Palin or her staff, but the damage to her credibility will certainly register in the next few days worth of polling, and the damage that Palin has done to the McCain ticket will only sink in deeper.
Just this morning, Palin has already begun to pled that she has done nothing wrong, and the McCain campaign has issued its statement whereby it is trying to dust this matter underneath the rug, but a clearer picture of who Palin is, is certainly beginning to form in the public's mind. As stated in the Time article:
"Monegan consistently emerges as the adult in these conversations, while the Palin camp displays a childish impetuousness and sense of entitlement."
The McCain camp has been trying to get us to answer the question, "Who is Barack Obama?" as if we haven't been examining, in detail, every aspect of the man for the past 18 months. The real question, of course, is:
"Who is this Sarah Palin?", and what vendettas will she and her husband Todd be pursuing, if God forbid, they should be placed in a position that is one 72-year old heartbeat from the presidency?
Now that is something to be scared of.

just posted similar sentiments. We now know two things, just based on this one investigation: she abused her powers and, perhaps even worse, she lied about her involvement.

Actually, she was found to have abused "the public trust." That is a big statement. It is essentially the same thing as abuse of power, but is more powerful oratorically. She says Obama can't be trusted, and then she abuses the public trust.

Was there REALLY any question in anyone's mind who cared?

Palin is so lucky that the news this morning is focused on the removal of North Korea from Bush's "terror list". Lots of news coverage on the tanking DOW as well. Will this story even survive the weekend? Maybe the MSM is holding back for Monday?

No problem. He had to remove North Korea from the list to make room for the Palin gang of Christian terrorists.

Stick this right up there with the Gibson and Couric interviews. The woman's just not that smart and she doesn't surround herself with geniuses.
She's clever and manipulative but not smart.

"Monegan consistently emerges as the adult in these conversations, while the Palin camp displays a childish impetuousness and sense of entitlement."
There could not be a truer statement to all of this.
These are the same lawmakers that coined the phrase "Where's Sarah", as she seldom showed up in Anchorage, but preferred to use her Juneau office as it was closer to her house.
Perhaps the people of Alaska will wake up and realize that they truly have a governor-less state. Sarah wanted the office for the prestige and power, not to actually do any work, run anything or make any real changes, unless those changes benefit her and Todd.
She is a manipulative, narcissitic, gutter fighting, sh** flinging, trailer trash, moronic, cu**.
Sorry if I offend anyone, but I truly dispise this woman and all the holier-than-thou crap she tries to stand for.

I am so happy about this article!!!
I've read a lot of the Branchflower report, and even if one were to disagree with the findings themselves, the "events" recorded are embarrassingly amateurish and highlight how involved the First Dude is.
I think of my state, Minnesota, and even though Tim Pawlenty is a Republican, I respect his professionalism and integrity. I could never imagine his wife making calls for him and I would never suspect him of abuse of power - he's just wrong on the issues.
I feel sorry for Alaskans who have to feel this shame.
It's the end of Palin's political career for sure. Had she not been the McCain VP choice, and in the spotlight, maybe she could have held on to her job. (Not that I feel sorry for her at this point- she's been down right mean.)

Oh-oh! You mean Palin has yet another unmarried knocked-up daughter?

Here is a link to the whole 263 page report.

It is the basic reference that a whole lot of spin will come from.
Findings are on page 8. Most of the rest is testimony transcripts. Players, events and a good timeline are well organized. There is a nugget on pages 53 and 54 where Judge Suddock discusses spousal support. The judge rebukes the family's plan to get Trooper Wooten fired. Date: 10/27/2005
See page 62 for the smoking gun. An aide to the Governor makes a phone call to a taped number. Date: 02/29/2008
It looks like a family feud was continued after Sarah and Tod Palen became Governor and First Gentleman of Alaska. Is this the executive experience we have heard so much about? "Shockingly amateurish" is too charitable.

Know what this episode reminds me of? Once I was on vacation in Australia. We stayed in a nice eco-resort located in a suburb of Cairns. The staff were ultra-friendly. So friendly that, within two days of our arrival, they started to embroil us (foreign tourists) in their personal lives. On my second visit to the gift shop, I was warned by the woman who ran the concession not to go to a certain restaurant in town because one of the waiters was the estranged husband of the woman who worked at the resort bar. It was the only seafood restaurant of note in the guide, so we went anyway, and we took taxis both ways. One or both of the cab drivers knew one or more of the resort staff, and we were treated differently after that. No more free wine tastings, because we had committed the sin of eating at a restaurant where someone's ex worked. No more cheery greetings at breakfast.
In small towns, all politics are personal.

Actually, Palin may be facing worse problems. The mcShame campaign urged her to file a report against herself with the personnel board, thought to be in the tank for Palin. Well, turns out those folks hired a prosecutor! Who, it turns out, is a Dem. Who, it turns out, will be interviewing Palin soon.
Get out your popcorn!
