Obama: National Security Team -- Story is about Hillary

President Elect Barack Obama just announced his choices for his national security team.

Who is the media talking about?  Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Who makes news on his own?  Bill Clinton sending out his APPROVAL of Obama selecting Hillary as SOS.

Coonsey, this never ending rant is starting to get a tad old.

user-pic

Starting? It's kind of comic relief actually. :)

I'll miss Hill in the Senate *sniff*sniff*, but the whining and crying of the rabid Clinton haters will be consolation enough :) :) :)

user-pic

My rant is FACT. What are you hearing on the tv news about Gates, Jones, Rice or the Governor?

Nothing or very little.

It's all about the Clintons and will be for the next 4 yrs....unfortunately.

user-pic

Can you link to any news site that has Bill and Hillary as the lead story rather than Obama naming his national security team? The media is less obsessed with the Clintons than you are! That's some deep obsession!

user-pic

No it's just a never ending rant.

Just to name a few --- Clintons are first and foremost.

If you don't get that by now, you never will.

See below. Counter examples.

At 12:27 PM, none of the headlines on the Times web page mentions Clinton. It's all about Obama.

Here's the headline for the Post on the same topic: Obama Names Clinton, Gates to Cabinet Posts

CNN: Obama: Clinton has my 'complete confidence'

Reuters: "Team of Rivals" (evidently it's a requirement these days to include this hackneyed phrase)

AP: Obama announces Clinton, Gates for Cabinet.

Now, no doubt you'll look at this sample and announce that it proves your point, and I'll just say in response: of course Clinton and Gates are going to be mentioned, because the Secretaries of State and Defense happen to be critical positions given what the U.S. is facing.

And finally, you show remarkably little confident in Obama.

user-pic

that should be "confidence", of course. Duh.

Grammar challenged even with preview.

user-pic

You are right, it proves my point. For the next week we will hear the pros and cons of Hillary being SOS. Forgetting about the REST of the TEAM that OBAMA selected.

Bill Clinton had the NERVE to come out with his own statement APPROVING of Obama's selection of Hillary.

Give me a break.

I would like nothing MORE than to come out 3.5 years from now and apologize for my attacks on Hillary and I will DO SO --- if I am found to be wrong (she doesn't try and run for pres in 2012, and if she does what Obama tells her to (and not send out leaks saying the opposite - as Colin Powell is later to report he did)during those years.

user-pic

You're focusing on Hillary and Bill, coonsey. You.

And you display very little confidence in the individual who, you know, beat out Clinton.

Bill Clinton issuing a statement about the appointment of his wife isn't arrogance or hubris. It's common sense that when the wife of a former president is nominated to such a position as Secretary of State, said former president might have something to say about it.

"if she does what Obama tells her to do". Wow. If she's a good little girl, then you'll concede you were just plain goofy over this?

user-pic

Her job will be to go along with Obama's policies and vision -- if she cannot do that -- she needs to step down NOW. Yesterday would have been better.

Even during her speech today, she points out that New Yorkers taught her to SPEAK HER MIND, well, sorry....but SOS's aren't there to speak THEIR minds to allies and enemies, they are there to speak the mind of their boss.

Clintons LOST --- they are the ones that need to get over it and step away, but they refuse to do so acting as tho we OWE them something.

user-pic

And in his speech, Obama said that he chose his team because of their strong opinions and is looking forward to having vigorous debates. Obama knows Hillary will speak her mind and that is why he picked her. Remember: He is wary of group think.

user-pic

Coonsey's missing those wonderful years of unity, when you could say, "Hey guys, what say we invade Iraq this year?" and everyone would nod their heads and go, "Ayup." Good ol' Team Player Coonsey.

user-pic

So you think Bill should have disapproved? lol.

user-pic

In fact, the thought just occurred to me, that in about a year or two, we could be hearing about Hillary's resignation from SOS. She'll claim in public that she needs to be with her family; but behind the scenes we'll hear she couldn't get Obama to listen to her.....yadda yadda yadda.

user-pic

Your hate for Clinton is palpable.

user-pic

Needs to be with her family? omg! You want to make predictions? I predict HRC will do an outstanding job and a lot of naysayers will be eating their words.

user-pic

YAWN.....

user-pic

SNORE...

user-pic

Just shows you the media is part of a circus - always "barking" about the freak show they want to sell...

user-pic

Your rant is not "fact" as I have experienced it, unless you leave cable TV news out of your definition of "the media," and consider the blogosphere as "the media."

I turned on the tube an hour ago actually hoping to see "them" yapping on Obama's National Security picks, hoping to see some clips from the press conference.

I haven't seen that at all until just now. I've been flipping from MSNBC to CNN to Fox and what I've seen is "them" talking about the ecomony--the recession announcement, the stock market, Paulson's upcoming press conference, what Bernake said, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Right now CNN also just did stories on Mumbai, Bangkok and Nigerian riots. Obama's picks have only been mentioned in passing, with one or two sentences, until just now they started the first spot on it, about a two minutes long, they had one quick talking head on it, and now they have moved back to the economy.

Consider the idea that they cover what produces people tuning in, because it's for profit. And a lot of people don't care as much about Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State as much as the liberal blogosphere does. That's because lots of the people in the U.S. don't care that much about foreign policy (something that bugs me, but is is reality.) Many more do care about the economy.

Rachel Maddow and Keith Olberman will probably cover it heavily on their shows because they cater to the liberal blogosphere market, including people like you who obviously think all the myths about the Clintons and Obama are an interesting topic.

user-pic

Your hatred is well registered. Move on. May be give a call to Hitchens if it helps.

user-pic

The media will focus on the Clintons because there is a long history of drama that generates ratings, which benefits advertisers, which keeps their businesses afloat in economically hard times... etc., etc.

Why pay money for research when you have hundreds of pre-packaged Clinton storylines paid for by millions of Scaife and Moon dollars?

I have made my opinion known that I think Mrs. Clinton is a shrewd pick... not merely because she is qualified and powerful, but because she draws media wattage away from Obama. 24 hour media will generate sensationlism against Democrats and cover for Republicans because Democrats have a history of occasionally thinking outside the corporate box. To throw the fake hysteria at a Clinton will create the necessary fatigue and keep the purist progressives armed with poo to fling.

Honestly, coonsley, I would reccomend you get a new hobby. Just because the media devotes attention to a subject does not make that THE STORY. You should know better than that.

user-pic

Coonsey, get a life.
Don't you see that your ranting and Clinton media tallying is part of the problem?
Honestly! Let the woman and her husband alone and volunteer for the homeless or something.

user-pic

Poor coonsey. Hillary bested her.
