After The Surge Fails
There are rumblings now that Republicans will desert Bush in September if the surge is not demonstrating signs of progress by then. Their argument will be that we gave it a chance but .... Anything they say will be accepted by a grateful public.
But the same logic stated by Democrats now is somehow treasonous.

Democrats pump poison gas into the political climate maybe more than the Republicans. Steny Hoyer said today after Bush's veto that, of course, we would "support the troops" by voting funding for more war.
That ain't no support, fellow.
When I was in Vietnam, another soldier was told by an astrologer that he would be leaving Vietnam within two weeks. The soldier protested that he had just arrived and had nearly a full year tour of dury. The astrologer insisted the soldier would be leaving within 2 weeks.
He did.
Some kind of family emergency occurred and the soldier was sent home within the two week period.
Well I tell you that astrologer had one hell of a land office business after that. Took a hell of a long time for me to get an appointment to be told the usual nonsense.
It was only years later that someone recognized there was a war going on. Eisenhower was president at the time.
Some support Steny is giving the troops.
Even Barack Obama, who is I think the most intelligent of the Democratic candidates, has fallen into the semantic trap, willingly or not.
Ain't no surge. It is escalation, pure and simple. It will fail and the Republicans will continue to support Bush just as the Democrats did Bill Clinton with disastrous results results for the Democrats.
Democratic politicians from Steny Hoyer to Barack Obama may be compromising future wipeouts of Republicans by "supporting the troops." I bet most of the troops don't appreciate that kind of support.
Best, Terry
