Be Nice to TPM. (Or else they'll bring an upgrade to your website!)

Sorry, couldn't help it.  ;^}

I feel bad for TPM and their difficulties getting this all together. But then there are times when you just want to say... What the fuck!? Seriously!

Earlier today I had one of those moments. Right now, though, a couple drinks in, I'm feeling a little more blase. It'll get there. Someday. Probably soon. And we'll all look back and laugh. Right? Heh-heh.

Hope so.

Til then... peace.

Shhhhh quiet! You can vote again, recommend older stuff again. All my posts got a tiny bump.

Uh ah uh I mean yeah, sucks that they were having trouble today ;-)

user-pic

Drinks. Of course. What a capitol idea. Why didn't I think of that?

user-pic

I did.

user-pic

Today has been hellish. I can't imagine it's been any fun for the folks at TPM either, but jeez. I guess we're all beta testers now.

user-pic

Things should be settling down now, really sorry about the day. We haven't enjoyed it either.

user-pic

Having spent the day working out the kinks on a web site I am redesigning for a club I belong to (thank the maker, not online yet), I feel your pain and really don't think the TPM upgrade is going badly. Keep up the good work!

user-pic

This has been a pretty smooth transition given the challenges involved. Two days to a fairly bug free launch is just about perfect.

Now if you could figure out a way to wrap the MovableType admin interface into the actual TPM site so one doesn't get lost when going to the Blog Now realm that would be a bonus. As it is, going back to edit something leaves unable to get to the main site without hitting back over and over.

Great job overall though.

user-pic

Co-sign on that, absolutely. The Movable Type interface is way too divorced from the actual site.

user-pic

The new TPM Cafe looks promising, but all day I've been missing the old one. Maybe they could offer two versions of the TPM Cafe: one "Classic" and the other "New". It worked so well for Coke.

Our annoyance only proves how much we want/need TPM. Admit you're powerless.

Then fire up a blunt and pour a splash of Mt. Gay rum into some hand-squeezed limeade.

user-pic

Ah, Mount Gay Rum... I know what I'm picking up after my next paycheck now.

user-pic

There you go, Tom. We're apparently in a 12-step program! Admit we're powerless..... and TPM is da fix.

user-pic

I was skimming the comments and thought you wrote "fresh squeezed female."

I think I need the Mt. Gay, too...

user-pic

I got a strange one - I was reading all the new comments on Clearthinker's Depression 2.0 post. Then I hit Dashboard, and was on Clearthinker's dashboard. Now, back and forth I always come out on his dashboard. I didn't think "follow" meant "merge."

user-pic

I always knew we had mind melded.

I must say, the idea of doing a major software switch with 3 weeks left until the GE has about the same merits as redoing your last software switch a day before Super Tuesday.

I do notice that we now have the most popular followed posters. For a website presumably leaning towards egalitarianism, TPM loves to bring playground popularity politics out in the open!

But thanks for the preview button!

user-pic

That's impossible. You can't see another person's dashboard. What are you seeing?

user-pic

I had that happen to me yesterday morning, but can't seem to recreate the error. It might have been fixed already.

user-pic

Well, in my case on the right half of the layout it said Clearthinker instead of Donal. Isn't happening anymore.

user-pic

I love your hypothesis, however humorous!

user-pic

Ok, how do I get my avatar up?

user-pic

oh, d'oh, it's up!!

user-pic

Honestly, I think y'all are too hard on these guys. Face it. There's never a good time to do a software upgrade, and no upgrade or major change ever goes through without a lot of bugs and wrinkles.

Keep pointing out the problems, for sure, but have a little faith that they'll all get addressed eventually.

user-pic

The irony being how hard TPM has been on government for not being able to get web sites working or properly updated. Bet they regret every single one of those posts now.

user-pic

I work on software upgrades for a living. I have developed some Laws of Upgrading:
1. All users will suffer mightily.
2. All implementation professionals will damage their reputations; some will never try this again; others will transform that damage to marketable experience at a higher billing rate.
3. No amount of learning will make the next upgrade any better; old problems will surface in new ways; new problems will not be found until it's too late; recurring problems will continue, that's why they are called recurring problems.
4. It will cost way more than budget; attempting to budget a contingency will automatically double all costs; don't trifle with the Gods and Goddesses; just keep sending sacrifices. And money.
5. Eventually things work just fine but that's only a few weeks until the next Upgrade. Go back to Rule 1.
Thank you, TPM. This is still the best political site on the web. Upgrades are a b*!@# and y'all did good. I promise to not send any more whiney emails as I'm sure I hit my quota.

user-pic

I'm tempted to channel Ronald Reagan.

The scariest words in the English language are "I'm from TPM, and I'm here to improve your website."

user-pic

Things do look as if they're getting better, smoothing themselves out. Time will tell, of course... fingers crossed!

user-pic

I clicked on my profile to see what was different, and it said "kz follows nobody".
Ha! I'm a Maverick!

user-pic

Keep doing your thing guys. It will get their soon. Just take your time, dont "rush" it.

So far so good...though I cant update my profile.
Something about entering a password hint....I dont have one of those heh.

Ill try again later tonight.

user-pic

How come I have to update my profile and confirm my password *everytime* I log in? I thought once would be enough with a "save" but every time I come on, I have to confirm my password. Is this correct? Is this the way it's supposed to be? Can someone answer my question?
