To All Those Voting Republican This Election; My letter to the editor
My letter to the editor of my local papers. There have been numerous "pro-life" letters published recently, some very inflammatory. While I wonder if I'm wasting my time, I felt someone needed to answer.
To all those voting Republican this election:
I have a few questions that I would like answered. You may answer them any way you see fit. You may respond to this letter with a letter of your own. If you see me in the grocery store, on the street, at a ballgame, feel free to give me your answers. I really want to know.
1. Since the conservative movement is predominantly a Christian movement and that fact is proudly waved at all political events, when will you start to practice Christian values? I have read the Bible from cover to cover . There seems to be a disconnect between saying you're a Christian and actually being one. Matthew 7:16 "You shall know them by their fruits". Other than proclaim your superiority to others what have YOU actually done to be "Christ-like"? The values I'm referring to and which seem to be left at the doorstep include but are not limited to taking care of the poor. Matthew 25:40 "Inasmuch as ye have done unto the least of these my brethren, ye have done unto me".
I am so sick of people calling Democratic Party values socialism. If that is true then Jesus was a socialist. If this irks you then it's time to get a new god. Here's an idea; instead of smug, self assertions of your morally better views, why don't you live them? Also, read the bible. You might find a verse in there in which Jesus states " It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven"(Matthew 19:24). Go figure.
2. How many crack babies and foster children have you adopted, brought into your home to raise as your own, and shared Gods love with? None? Really? Wow. Ok, what about anybody in your extended family. Nobody there either? Ok, ok. That's alright. There are over half a million kids waiting in foster care right now so you're not to late to help! I bet you've already helped a pregnant woman who was thinking of abortion. Taken her to Dr. apts. Bought her food so she has a healthy baby. Given her a roof over her head when she gets kicked out. Oh, really. No time for that either. But you have time to write letters to the editor stating how much you value life. But you don't value actual living, breathing humans who go to sleep every night in a different bed wondering if anyone will ever show them love. Ok, I'm starting to get the picture.
3.What don't you understand about the ninth commandment? "Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor" (Exodus 20:16). While I am sure the left have just as many wing nuts as the right, the one thing I have noticed is that the left doesn't give those crazies center stage at the rallies, allow them prime spots on "news" programs and publish their brochures intended to legitimize their insane, widely disproved rants. No where in the bible does it say it's ok to lie to further your cause no matter what you think the "greater good" will overcome. If the Democratic Party pushed some of the lies I have heard about McCain I would think they were morons. So when I hear people who identify themselves as Republicans pushing the loony conspiracy theories of the right, I think you are a moron. When you believe everything anybody with a keyboard puts on the web it makes you look like a naïve child.
Lastly, if you didn't recognize yourself in my letter then it probably wasn't about you. Don't take it personally. I know not all Republicans hold these views and I know many Republicans do good, I am speaking to a certain section and I think they know who they are. One final scripture for good measure, "If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth" (I John 1:6)
