Two Memorable Things I Did on November 4th, 2008

In the wee hours of November 4th I delivered a baby.  It is always an enriching experience helping to guide a new human being into the world.  It was even more interesting because this child was born into a new country that didn't exist yesterday.  This child's mother is white and his father is black.

The second thing I did was vote for Barack Obama, the next President.

It is interesting to think about how this child's life will be different because of our new President.

Now if I can just score a few tickets to the Inauguration...

What an awesome day you had, sir! I suddenly realized this morning in the orgy of pundits talk of Obama's victory and what it means to the blacks in this country, that it can't mean that to Obama, because his black father was not the descendant of the slave experience, but was merely a temporary visitor to this country. I think that's what people are missing about Obama. He has no remnant of slave shame in his psyche, leaving him free to be a human being in full. Love and peace to you!
