I'm So Excited I Could Pee!!!!

Bear with me here. I have been a registered Republican ever since I was old enough to vote (and that was in the Nixon days!) I have voted for a Republican President every single time (please try not to hold that against me, as I am in recovery and deserve to start w/ a clean slate.)

I am now a registered Democrat.

I just filled out my absentee ballot voting for Barack Obama and I am so excited I need to share it with the world, and since this site is the closest I'm ever going to come to having a world stage, here goes!

I VOTED FOR BARACK OBAMA, AND I'M PROUD OF IT!

YEAH!!!!

I'm glad you're excited! Hope and uplifted spirit is what the Obama campaign is all about. I'm so proud of my party right now. I'm an old lady and I've been a Democrat all my life because for me it comes down to party of the rich or party of the poor. Both sides fail miserably a lot of the time, but at least the Democrats try to help those less fortunate and that's where my heart is. Good for you and thanks!

user-pic

What nonsense. The democrats are the party of the poor only in the sense that they want everyone (except themselves) to be poor, because poor people can be convinced that they need a nanny state to take care of them. Feinstein, Corzine, Feingold, Pelosi, are not exactly on skid row. They just want to use other people's money to buy votes. They consider themselves compassionate because they take money away from those that earned it and give it to people that did not. They consider people who want to keep the money they earned greedy and selfish.

user-pic

"They consider people who want to keep the money they earned greedy and selfish."

Excuse me, but don't you rely on government services too? Do you drive on roads? Are you protected by the military? Do you or your family attend public schools? Do you recieve health care that benefits from medical research funded by the government?

"Selfish" is absolutely right-on.

user-pic

No, it is selfish for people like the typical Obama supporter to vote themselves a greater share of someone else's money. Sure, I use gov't services the same as you. What I object to is paying my share, your share, and a bunch of other people's share of those costs, in addition to giving them my money that I worked for while they sit on their ass doing nothing.

user-pic

I am so glad that republicans like you are a dying breed - selfish bores who don't understand that their "wealth" is a product of our nation's system of civil society and laws and infrastructure, which costs money. The more you have, the more you should pay for those blessings. Most of the "poor" work two and three jobs to keep their heads above water.

user-pic

Rec'd just for the title. But seriously, congratulations. In 20 years of casting ballots, I've never been able to bring myself to vote for a Republican, so I know the pull of party loyalty.

I'm going to remember you for a long time, stillidealistic. And if the time comes when I know in my heart that my party has abandoned its core beliefs in a shallow, dishonest, base grab for power, I hope I will have your fortitude and courage.

user-pic

A former life-long Republican myself, I felt the same way last year when I registered as a Democrat for the first time ever....so that I could vote for Obama in the primary and general elections.

Congratulations, idealistic, and thank you.

user-pic

That goes for you, too, sparky!

user-pic

Let me get this straight:

You haven't peed, since the Nixon administration?

user-pic

Hee hee hee!

user-pic

I'm with Orlando. About you and about the title.

Congrats! Join me in a glass of wine and a toast a bit later - okay?

user-pic

Hah! You crack me up. You're genuinely idealistic and big-hearted and I like that about you. Congrats on your vote. I can't wait to cast mine.

user-pic

Hah! You crack me up. You're genuinely idealistic and big-hearted and I like that about you. Congrats on your vote. I can't wait to cast mine.

user-pic

You know, you can always vote whichever way you choose at the ballot box. The fun part of being registered to the other party is that you get to influence their primaries... ;-)

user-pic

Believe me, I considered that. I made the decision to vote for Obama as a Republican. But once McCain picked Palin, I HAD to make a bigger statement.

user-pic

Exactly right, which is why i registered republican for the first time in my life in August.

user-pic

If this is true, why do you continue to come here? Masochism? This isn't rhetorical, I really want to know.

user-pic

Why wouldn't I? There are republicans around here who constantly try to stir up stuff that need to be smacked down.

I am straight-up progressive when it comes to policies, as was the man behind my icon. I just prefer a more calm and rational approach to my sweeping change. I agree with the broad strokes around here much more than I would at some neocon site, which is all the modern republicans have to offer.

No masochism required.

user-pic

What exactly is a 'progressive', other than a less derogatory name for a socialist. There is nothing progressive about taxing the productive to reward the idle.

user-pic

Whoa, so you are saying we should take money from the idle rich and give it to the workers? I didn't realize you were snubbing socialism in favor of communism. But I like it, comrade. Let's redistribute the wealth to the people who actually work for a living!

user-pic

A progressive, or socialist if you prefer, thinks that we should use all of our resources in the most effective and common sense way as possible.

A progressive also recognizes that the most productive periods in our history had policies that may have placed a higher tax burden on the rich, but they were happy to pay because they knew that they actually made more money in a more just society with a more equal distribution of wealth.

A progressive understands that progress as a country requires understanding and learning from history. A lesson you apparently are unable or unwilling to understand.

user-pic

Good job!

user-pic

As usual, you don't know what you are talking about. When was that mythic era where our productivity was at it's peak and people enjoyed paying taxes at ever higher rates?

user-pic

That would be the period after World War II up until 70s. Once again, you only prove your own ignorance by accusing others of the same. Seriously, crack a book every now and then. It is good for the soul.

user-pic

cynical

user-pic

Welcome to the fold. Let's hope there are a lot more like you out there!

To quote someone I care about and respect:

"The older I get, the more I feel like me" .... "Life is not meant to be a gentle journey to the grave arriving in pristine condition, but rather a wild roller coaster, sliding in sideways, a mocha in one hand and a bar of chocolate in the other, completely used up and screaming whoooeeee! What a ride!"
Thank you, Still, for being the wonderful person you are.

user-pic

That's a hell of a quote.

user-pic

I give you credit for your honesty, but I still can not understand how anyone cold have voted to reelect GDub in 2004.

user-pic

Partly ignorance, partly fear...

But I'm not ignorant or afraid anymore.

user-pic

The Constitution stipulates that election disputes, such as that in 2000, are to be resolved by CONGRESS. Such ELECTION disputes are NOT the province of the UNELECTED Judiciary.

That means the SC usurped that exclusive authority of Congress, therefore subverted the Constitution to unconstitutionally appoint Bushit.

That gave him the advantage of the incumbency in 2004 -- by which time the brainless Justice O'Connor was shocked not at her part in subverting the Constitution in order to get her way, but what Bushit turned out to be.

Most saw what Bushit was during 1999. And most of those rejected his agenda, and voted against him.

user-pic

Congress sure is good at letting the other branches of government usurp their Constitutional powers.

user-pic

Jason, this is a truly hisotic moment. I agree completely with your statement!

user-pic

Come on. I think we have agreed at least once or twice before this. :O)

user-pic

I thought to myself: I don't have to preview such a short post -- oops!

HISTORIC!

user-pic

What a relief! I was just about to reach for my dictionary!

user-pic

LOVE the new avatar!

user-pic

Is it me or is at least a 4th of Democrats used to be Republicans but at some point (whether it be the last 8 years or even earlier) they switch to Democrat.

user-pic

Thank you all! You've made me very glad I chose to share my joy w/ you!

user-pic

Congrats! I can hardly wait to do the same on November 4th.

user-pic

Good for you! I am not a citizen yet, though I have been in the US for a long time. Sen. Obama inspired me to file for my citizenship and in just under month I will be taking the citizenship test!!. So in 2012 = Obama relection! PLZ

I did donate to his campaign though ^_^

I can feel your excitement and am a little jealous:)

user-pic

Congratulations! I am so happy for you! We'll vote together in 2012!

user-pic

Good on you, idealistic. This was the time. The need, the hunger for positive change is palpable. The heavy lifting is still in front of us but it is much easier with more people in the effort.

Peace and blessings!

user-pic

It warms my heart that there are intelligent people on this planet. I just watched a video of a Palin rally and I lost 10 IQ points.

If more people were like you, this planet would be much better.

Good Luck and keep believing in good.

user-pic

Excellent! High Five!!!

Now you are free to share your show with friends and family... and spread it around...

My mom started out as a Hillary supporter but convinced to support Barack and then I got her lobbying her republican bridge friends and today she said 'ALL of my friends are voting for Senator Obama, ALL of them!!!! Whoooo!!! Yay mom!!

I am going to vote early with my daughter and anyone else we can bring with us so that we can volunteer election day. I was just thinking we may want to suggest that every polling place have scarves or extra jackets for anyone who shows up in a Tshirt in places where they are not allowed to go into the polling place wearing that... I'm sure someone has thought of this.

The more votes we get, the more united our country will be!

Congratultions! I am glad you felt so excited that you wanted to share it joy!

user-pic

Thanks for sharing the excitement, and for the shot of inspiration!

user-pic

Still, not to worry, am sending you case of Depends before November 4th, because when Obama wins, I know you will really need them!

Great post friend! Highly rec'd.

user-pic

Yes, I will! Thanks for the thought!!!

user-pic

Congrats!

user-pic

Remember the Reagan Democrats? One of my best friends was one of those; I still can't figure that one out . . .

But hey, congrats now go and get your friends/family to switch over!

user-pic

Welcome to the Pee Party!

user-pic

Me too! I'm so excited I already wet my pants!

user-pic

Good for you. Crossing over is hard, I can think of very few times I have done it as a Democrat. But in each case I look back and say...I voted for the better candidate - which is what we are supposed to do as informed voters!

Hey, how many Republican friends/relatives do you have who might be persuaded by your courageous example?

user-pic

Unfortunately, not many. Most of my friends were already Democrats and most of my family is in denial
as in "set in concrete"...some are even racist, I'm ashamed to say. But, we keep plugging away!

user-pic

Pee pants.

user-pic

I'm a life long republican too. 2004 was a very tough choice, but I voted for Kerry. I remember walking out of the voting booth regreting that vote, but I haven't regreted it since.

I consider myself an independent - I'll always look at all candidates and pick the best ones, but with Obama's positive message and campaign, and his common sense solutions to the many problems that our country faces, vs the sleeze McCain/Palin and the Repub's have been spewing, it will be a long time before I vote for any republican.

user-pic

There are many recovering Republicans on this and other Progressive sites, myself included. Congratulations and rest assured the feeling you get when voting your conscience just gets better and better.
