DETAILS & TERMINOLOGY
What is the List? The Social Security 'Straight Answer Wanted' List is a list of 2006 candidates for the House and Senate who refuse to give a clear-cut answer to the question of whether they favor preserving Social Security in its current form or phasing it out and replacing it with private accounts, as President Bush favors.
What Do the Abbreviations Mean? "B" designates a Social Security "Bamboozler" who has attempted to use deceptive phrasing to hide or otherwise obscure their true position on phasing out Social Security and replacing it 401-K-style private accounts. "SH" refers to Social Security "Switch-Hitters" who've changed their position on phasing out Social Security one or more times. Linked asterisks (*) note events, statements or stories that have affected a member or candidate's position on the TPM Social Security 'Straight Answer' List.
