The New York Daily News hired Shaun King, a blogger advocating against police brutality, as senior justice writer, the publication announced Friday, according to CNN.

King, who had written as a columnist for Daily Kos, will start Oct. 15 in the newly created role, according to CNN.

“Shaun’s writing on social inequality, police brutality and race relations in America has been some of the best work done in the country,” said Executive Editor Jim Rich in a memo to staff, according to CNN. “His passion and attention to detail on topics that are of critical importance to our readers — both online and in print — make him a perfect fit for the Daily News.”
