Stephen Colbert’s expertly-calibrated guerrilla marketing campaign for his new “Late Show” gig continued with a perfect guest spot hosting a Michigan public access show this week. No joke.

During the 41-minute episode of “Only In Monroe,” (pop. 20,700) Colbert painted his nails with the show’s regular hosts, read nasty Yelp reviews, and chased an O’Doul’s with a shot of whisky, interrupted only by low-budget commercials for local businesses.

But the cornerstone of the show was an interview with rapper Eminem, who Colbert introduced as “a local Michigander who is making a name for himself in the competitive world of music.” Eminem also gamely sang bits of Colbert’s favorite Bob Seger songs as part of the segment (starting at about 22:50).

“Late Show” with Colbert doesn’t start until Sept. 8, which means there’s plenty of time for Colbert to pop up in your local market.
